The problem most originality tools have: your round-two revision matches your own round-one submission almost word for word, and comes back flagged as plagiarism — especially when a co-author sends it rather than the corresponding author.
VERIFY identifies the manuscript, not just who sent it. Earlier versions of the same paper are set aside instead of counted against you.
List your co-authors when you submit. A revision sent by any of them is recognised as the same manuscript.
Every set-aside match is shown on the report with its overlap and the reason. Your editor sees what was found as well as what was counted.
An unpublished manuscript is your intellectual property. It is matched against — which is what protects you if someone submits your work elsewhere — but it is never quoted. If another paper overlaps with yours, that author is told a match exists and nothing more: no title, no author, no text. Your work is never published by us and you can delete it at any time.
